Dawn Comes Early

Dawn Comes Early

 From GoodReads ~
Disgraced dime novelist Kate Tenney fled the city that banned her latest novel for the emptiness of the desert. Answering an ad to be "heiress" to a vast cattle ranch in the Arizona Territory, Kate hopes ranching turns out to be as romantic as she portrayed it in her novels.
But what awaits her is a life harder than the one she just left. There is no room for mistakes on a working cattle ranch, and Kate is ill-prepared for her new life. She quickly learns that dawn comes early. But she is tenacious.
Having been abandoned by a string of men, Kate has no intention of ever marrying. But she didn't expect to meet Luke Adams, either. Luke awakens feelings inside Kate she doesn't recognize, and his steady presence is a constant distraction. She has only written about love in the past, never known it herself. But her feelings for Luke stand in the way of all she has to gain if she is chosen as the heir.
Perhaps God brought Kate to the barrenness of the desert to give new life to her jaded heart.
 My Thoughts ~
Kate answers an unusual ad for an heiress in Arizona Territory. After she has proven her mettle with very hard work, she will be offered the Last Chance Ranch...on one condition: she has to sign paperwork stating that she will never marry. Kate is ready to sign this document until she meets Luke. Then she has to make the tough decision between her future on the ranch and her future with Luke.

For this supposedly Christian book, there isn't much about God in it, and there is nothing about Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, there is no reason to believe that Kate has any kind of relationship with God, so I cannot understand why Luke is so attracted to her. He has at least a shallow relationship with God.

That said, I did enjoy the supporting characters in this book: the cowhands on the ranch, the outlaw Cactus Joe, and Luke's aunts and uncles. And the depiction of the hard work involved on the ranch was great.

So, if you like historical romances, you might like this book, but I couldn't wait until I had finished it...so I could move on to something better.

I received this book from BookSneeze for an honest review.
